Graduating

As I heard about several of my friends graduating from high school I couldn't help remembering a poem I once wrote about my own graduation experience. I hope you enjoy it. :)

Walking with a stream of blue,
Fixing tassels and adjusting gowns,
Trying not to stumble,
My chest feels like it's bound.

Taking easy breaths,
I walk to my seat.
Now I'm in the sea.
A few people are feeling beat.

I couldn't believe it.
I'm sitting here.
Not at school.
I hold back tears.

A large part of me was sad,
But I didn't want to show it.
So I kept on smiling,
But it may have shown a little bit.

I walk with the line,
Hearing my named get called.
I carefully walk on the steps,
Trying not to fall.

My family is screaming and waving,
Trying to get my attention.
I finally spot them.
But I had to sit from the tension.

My hat becomes one of the many,
Soaring into the air,
Like how I wanted to be.
It just didn't seem fair.

Later I cheered up quite a bit,
Hugging family and friends of mine,
This has been a long year,
I am part of the class of two thousand and nine.
